In-Service Day ~ Nov. 18

Submitted on behalf of the President's Office.

On Wednesday, November 18, 2009, we will come together as a college from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for our Fall In-Service day. We will convene in the Mitchell Activity Center Gym.

As I described to you on President’s Day, there are a number of pressing issues, challenges and opportunities facing us. The focus of this In-Service Day will be on the college’s Comprehensive Facilities Master Plan, including questions about the overall vision for the college over the next five, ten, twenty years or more. We need to consider the population of students we will serve, the programs we will offer, the means by which we will offer them, and the overall role we will play in our community.

I strongly encourage everyone to attend and participate. I believe that this is a critical opportunity for college-wide engagement on matters of importance to us as an institution, and look forward to your participation.

First Digital Photography Boot Camp

The first Digital Photography Boot Camp class was completed by 18 students (mostly faculty and staff from all of the District Colleges) September 26th-October 10th. This Saturday class, taught by Seattle Central’s own Robbie Milne (Commercial Photography), provided the students with instruction on digital camera usage and basic principles and how to edit and print photos using Adobe Lightroom software. Robbie guided the class from start to finish as the group did a photo shoot in the Arboretum, shared and edited their work in the Creative Academy labs, and ultimately developed and printed their own digital photo masterpieces, assisted by Chris Sullivan (Publishing Arts).

The BITCA Division hopes to offer another Digital Photography Boot Camp class in 2010, and is contemplating an advanced class as well, to be offered in the next year.
