Capitol Hill Art Walk ~ June 11
Capitol Hill's New Arts Walk
Blitz: Capitol Hill's New Arts Walk Kickoff!
Thursday June 11th, 2009
On Thursday, June 11, Capitol Hill is launching Blitz - a new monthly arts walk showcasing the businesses and creative cultures that thrive on the Hill. Produced by the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce (CHCC), the walk includes a range of arts including visual art and music, performance art and even culinary arts.
Blitz will keep the neighborhood hopping from 5:00 - 8:00 pm next week and the event will continue on the second Thursday of each month. Over 40 Capitol Hill businesses are signed up to participate in Blitz, including Hugo House, Ballard Fetherston Gallery, and Babeland and the numbers keep climbing. Shop owners have pulled together a wide variety of artists and performers for the June 11 kickoff. In addition, street performers are gearing up to entertain and help set the tone for the celebration.
No gallery? No problem! Put your art on a stick and join the parade! To help celebrate the June 11 launch, Blitz is featuring an all-invited 'Art-on-a-Stick Parade.' The parade begins at the Broadway Performance Hall Plaza at Seattle Central Community College. Artists and members of the community are encouraged to join in and present their talent to the public.
The parade will follow along a route of businesses participating in Blitz and will end at performance space/tea house, Electric Tea Garden where the artwork will be displayed. The Electric Tea Garden is also hosting the Blitz after-party, featuring DJ's and dancing.
Capitol Hill artist Ellen Forney, also a CHCC board member and co-chair of CHCC's Arts & Entertainment Committee, is helping organize Blitz. "There are so many artists and art-lovers here, having a big, multi-disciplinary arts walk just made sense," said Ellen. "The response has been overwhelmingly positive - from residents, businesses, artists, and volunteers. Everyone wins! The second Thursday of each month is going to be a fun party."
